Beirut, Lebanon, March 2008 – International Medical Corps (IMC) and the Iraqi embassy in Beirut signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that enhances humanitarian support to Iraqi refugees in Lebanon. Solidifying the need for close collaboration between the two organizations, the agreement enables IMC to provide health-related services through the embassy and directs refugees to its programs. Signed by the Iraqi ambassador to Lebanon, Mr. Jawad Al Hairi, and IMC country director, Mr. Colin Lee, the agreement also formalizes information-sharing between the embassy and IMC and coordination in future program activities.
With the help of the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (BPRM), the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, and other partners, International Medical Corps has worked to increase the support network for approximately 50,000 Iraqi refugees. IMC currently administers primary health services, medications, and local medical training through seven heath clinics.
